Can You Go to the Gym After a Dental Crown Procedure?

June 30, 2025

You can go to the gym after getting a dental crown—but timing matters. If your crown was placed recently, especially with local anesthesia, it’s best to take it easy for at least 24 hours.

Why You Should Wait Before Hitting the Gym

After a dental crown procedure, your mouth may still be numb from anesthesia. Jumping into a workout too soon—especially high-intensity training—can increase blood pressure and lead to bleeding, swelling, or discomfort around the treated tooth.

Plus, if you’re grinding or clenching during exercise (hello, heavy lifts), you might stress the new crown.

If it was a permanent crown and you’re feeling fine, light exercise the next day is usually okay. But if it was a temporary crown, avoid anything that might cause it to come loose.

Pro tip: Listen to your body. If you feel sore or off, skip the gym and give your mouth a break.

When It's Safe to Resume Your Workout

Most people are good to return to normal workouts 24–48 hours after getting a crown. Stick to light cardio or stretching at first. Avoid anything high-impact or contact sports for a few days unless your dentist says otherwise.

If you ever feel pain or notice anything unusual after working out, call your dentist right away.
